Loans that Change Lives
We want to let you all know about a cool non-profit that is doing great things: Kiva.org
Kiva.org allows individuals to make $25 loans to low-income entrepreneurs in the developing world (microfinance). By doing so, individuals like you provide affordable working capital for the poor (money to buy a sewing machine, livestock, etc.), empowering them to earn their way out of poverty.
It’s a new, direct and sustainable way to fight global poverty, and the way we see it, we get a higher return on $25 helping someone build a future than the interest our checking account pays >:)
Recent press worth checking:
- San Francisco Chronicle: Microcredit movement tackling poverty one tiny loan at a time;
- The Wall Street Journal Online: Help Impoverished Entrepreneurs With Loans;

The Secret
Hundreds of thousands of people around the world have bought the book The Secret or watched the movie. We would summarize The Secret as follows: i) find out what you want; ii) be grateful for what you already have; iii) visualize what you long for and believe it will be brought to you and iv) allow yourself to receive what it is you want. Then just wait for the universe to act in its mysterious ways to fulfill your desires.
The teachings in The Secret have been both ridiculed and worshiped. A rather nice overview can be found at Wikipedia.
What we think of the book? We certainly enjoyed reading it and it opened up new desires in ourselves to find out more about the approach. It even triggered us to apply these principles in practice. So since it’s been of help to us, we would recommend anybody to read the book and reach his or her own conclusions. If you like it, enjoy working with it. If you don’t then just move on. Life is too short to spend it convincing other people what it is they should or shouldn’t believe in. >:)
